Bio
Quince Pan (b. 2000) is a documentary photographer and filmmaker from Singapore. His work has been published in Brazil, Italy, Singapore and the United States. In 2016, he was one of 14 young artists under 35 selected for the Singapore National Arts Council’s Noise Art Mentorship (Photography and Moving Images) programme, kickstarting his ongoing long-term family project, “JBM.” After graduating from Hwa Chong Institution and serving conscription as a police inspector, he is now an incoming Philosophy, Politics, and Economics undergraduate student at King’s College London.
In April 2020, the Singapore government declared a two-month circuit breaker period to curb the spread of COVID-19. Only essential work was permitted. City workers stopped mowing green spaces across the country, letting street-side vegetation grow wild even in the city centre.
Land Reclamation — alluding to Singapore’s extensive alteration of its physical geography in its development — explores an unusual temporary reality: nature’s unruly reclamation of territory in the immaculately manicured city.
