Desire to See Everything from Nowhere

Visual essay

Bio

I am Aisha Altenhofen, an artists and researcher interested in the weavings of fictions and materialisations thorugh lenses like more than human ontologies, capitalist (sur)realism and image spheres. I’m currently studying Fine Arts at the University of the Arts in Berlin with a background in Anthropology, History of Art and Visual Cultures (Humboldt University Berlin / Chulalongkom University Bangkok).

Desire to See Everything from Nowhere is a screenshot triptychon that is part of an ongoing series taken within the Street View cartogrophies of malls and stores.

Navigating through the stitched commercial architectures of the platform and the mall one encounters the surrealist hauntings of multiple temporalities, privacy laws, invisible authors and technical actors. The interactive movement through a frozen images sphere offers rise to new types of visuality and map abstractions that shift the relation to urban environments while depicted from a constructed empty centre.
